Orange Shirt Day - Sept.26

Orange Shirt Day is part of the legacy of the St-Joseph Mission Residential School Commemoration Project that took place in Williams, BC. The project was founded by a former student and survivor, Fred Robbins.

The project aims to unite residential school Survivors, bear witness to and honour the healing process, and visually show commitment to the Reconciliation process in Canada. The use of the orange shirt honours Survivor Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt gifted to her by her grandmother, was ripped away from her on her first day at the residential school.

Orange Shirt Day is an annual event that all are encouraged to participate in by wearing a commemorative orange shirt. As of 2021, September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
